1897 - 1998

Llangefni Town Football Club was founded back in 1897, although according to archive records, they show that there was a team in the Town in 1892, but this was primarily a Chapel based team.

Llangefni Town were founder members of the Anglesey Football League when it was founded back in 1897, and they played in it with some distinction for many years winning the League title five times as well as winning the Dargie Cup three times, and the Megan Cup once.

Many years later, season 1988/89 the club accepted promotion into the Gwynedd League and in their first season they achieved the treble, winning the League Championship along with the Eryri Shield and the Gwynedd Cup. The following season 1989/90 they repeated this tremendous achievement.

The following season 1990/91, the club accepted promotion into the then Welsh Alliance League where they won the League Championship, the Barritt and Alves Cups, not bad for their first season at this level. They then went on to win the Barritt Cup after treble success in the competition in 1991, 1992 and again in 1993. Llangefni also became the only Anglesey club to have ever won the Welsh Intermediate Cup back in 1992. They also won the Cookson Cup in 1994 and won the Welsh Alliance League Championship four times between 1991 and 1999.

The club’s successful reserve side won the North Wales Coast FA Junior Cup in season 1991/92, and were treble winners the following season, where they were crowned the Anglesey League champions, Elias Cup and JW Lees Cup winners in season 1992/1993.

1999 - 2014

In 1999, following promotion to the Cymru Alliance League, the club moved from Isgraig to its current ground at Talwrn Road. During the 2002/03 season, the reserves side won five titles in one season, winning the Anglesey League title as well as the Dargie Cup, Elias Cup, Thomas & Williams Cup and the A.E.E.U Cup.

After finishing runners up in 2001 and again in 2002 the club finally won the Cymru Alliance League title in season 2006/07 only losing one league game, this saw the club gain promotion to the Welsh Premier League, fulfilling the it’s ambitions of the past 10 years. The time at the top league of Welsh football was short lived as the club was relegated on the last day of the season, with the dream only lasting one season.

In 2010, against all the odds the club won the Cymru Alliance league championship for the second time, only to be denied promotion to the re-structured Premier League for failure to gain a Domestic Licence.

After a string of managers consecutive relegations, the 2013/14 season saw Llangefni pull out of the Welsh Alliance league. The club decided to keep a team full of young local players playing in the Anglesey league with the aim of rebuilding the club and getting back to the Welsh Alliance as soon as possible. The club finished mid-table but showed they were no pushovers by winning the Dargie Cup for the fifth time in the clubs history.

2015 - Present

The following season 2014/2015, saw Chris Roberts take charge of the first team. He built a team made up of local boys and the club was re-instated in the Welsh Alliance 2nd Division, and ended up in second place earning promotion to the First Division.

2015/2016 season, the goal was to finish in the Top 5 but the team ended up in Third position, exceeding all ambitions. 2016/17 the club finished second in the league and narrowly missed out on promotion by goals scored. The 2017/18 season was very much the same as the previous 2 seasons in the 1st division of the Welsh Alliance, once again narrowly missed out on promotion this time finishing second, 3 points behind champions Conwy Borough.

In the 2018/19 season the club won the Welsh Alliance Division for the record 5th time and achieved promotion to the newly formed Cymru North. In a very successful season, the team reached 2 finals, winning the Cookson Cup for the second time in the clubs history.

The return to tier 2 for the 2019/20 lasted three seasons and the club were relegated to tier 3 at the end of 2021/22 season.

In season 2020/21, the club re-formed a ladies team. In season 2023/24 in only their third season they won the Betty Pickering Cup.
